Having moved from sunny southern California to Ohio, I experienced my first "real" winter for the first time in about 10 years. It was amazing and beautiful, and surprising. One of these surprises was the birds. I was struck by their resilience and brilliance, their tenacity and vivacity. Even bin the depths of winter, they still sing. This song reflects that, and how - knowing that my friends, my family and the great universal power are there somewhere, even when I might feel lonely and isolated, gives me great comfort and makes me happy to sing!

The frost is hard upon the ground
